The British School of Barcelona inaugurates fourth campus to become one of the largest schools in Catalonia
We are very proud to announce that The British School of Barcelona (BSB), accredited as one of the best British schools in Spain, has officially opened a new campus in the city of Barcelona – the BSB City Main Campus.
Last week, the inauguration of the new campus was attended by more than 400 people, including authorities such as the British Consul General in Barcelona, Lloyd Milen MBE, and the Delegate for Education in Barcelona, Pere Masó.
During the ceremony, Frank Maassen, Group CEO at Cognita, said: “Spain is a key country for us, as we have nine schools here that are part of our community. We are very proud that BSB has established itself as one of the best British schools in the world and a benchmark for our community. The fact that we are here today to open a fourth campus reaffirms our commitment to invest in the continued growth and success of the school.” Frank also thanked the leaders and teachers at BSB for their valuable role in providing an outstanding holistic education for their students.
Germà Rigau, Managing Director of Cognita Spain and Italy, clarified that: “In the heart of Barcelona, we offer an education that truly transcends borders, providing our students with the knowledge, skills, and global perspective they need to succeed.”
Pere Masó, Barcelona’s Delegate for Education said “It is a joy to see how a unique educational project like this grows in our city,” and added that “schools like BSB help our sons and daughters to go abroad to develop their talents and their own lives.”
Throughout the day, attendees had the opportunity to take a guided tour of the school’s facilities, from the most innovative classrooms, such as the science laboratories and the soundproofed test boxes, to the pre-university forum and the art room. They also visited the sports facilities – an indoor sports hall and an outdoor sports centre which, together with the 22,000m2 of the historic Barcino Tennis Club with which the school has established a partnership for the use of its facilities, reflects BSB’s commitment to the all-round, holistic development of its students.
The new campus has given special importance to these values, prioritising a space that invites the development of creativity and leadership, through a design that is created under the criteria of wellbeing and sustainability. The building has been designed with thermal, acoustic and lighting efficiency in mind, utilising natural light and renewable energy sources such as solar energy and the use of rainwater.
Thanks to our significant investment in this new 5,000 m2 campus, and after 65 years of experience in Barcelona, Castelldefels and Sitges, the school is consolidating its presence in the area, offering more than 2,500 places in a total of four campuses throughout Catalonia. This milestone positions BSB as one of the largest and most influential schools in the region.
