In early September, Colchester Prep & High School proudly announced the opening of its new STEAM Centre of Excellence and Innovation. This significant investment underscores the school’s commitment to delivering an enriching and forward-thinking ‘STEAM Powered, Future Ready’ education for its students.

The new facility is set to benefit students at Colchester Prep & High School as well as fellow Cognita schools locally, Oxford House School and St Margaret’s Prep.

Among the innovative maker spaces are areas dedicated to electronics and robotics, broadcasting, film and animation, game design, textiles, and a climate science lab. These facilities are designed to provide students with hands-on, practical experiences that will prepare them for future academic and career success.

Headteacher Karen Gracie-Langrick expressed her excitement for the project, stating, “This truly was such a huge project, and one that will benefit Colchester Prep and High School pupils for many years to come.”

Michael Drake, CEO Cognita Europe & US, shared at the opening event; “Our job as educators is to teach the academics, but also to build character traits, the competencies and capabilities that will hopefully stand our children in good stead, no matter what the world looks like. I think that a ‘STEAM Powered, Future Ready’ curriculum is brilliantly aligned to our purpose, so I am really delighted and very excited about the STEAM Centre that we present to you today.”

The opening of the STEAM Centre marks a significant milestone in the school’s ongoing efforts to provide a cutting-edge education that equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
