We are very proud that Cognita colleagues attended and presented at Bett UK and the online World Education Summit in March 2022.

Bett is one of the largest Digital Learning and EdTech events in the world. Held at the ExCeL in London, it brings thousands of people together to see the latest advances in educational technology, as well as hosting sessions from leaders around the world to learn about best practices. On Wednesday 23 March, Harriet Croydon (Assistant Head, Colchester High School) and Andy Perryer (Digital Learning Advisor, Cognita Europe) were invited by Microsoft to present on how digital tools can support the engagement and Wellbeing of our students. The audience heard not only why these tools were important but were given real-life examples of their usage, and most importantly, their impact.

Andy and Harriet looked at Reading Progress, a special assignment in Teams that uses AI to detect oral reading fluency attainment and give teachers actionable insights to create targeted interventions. They also looked at Flipgrid, the video selfie tool which gives students agency to be able to easily share their insight. Finally, they looked at Minecraft for Education which is a game-based platform that is perfect to develop students’ collaboration, creativity and problem-solving skills.

The World Education Summit is the largest global online professional development event for educators. Jon Locke (Headteacher at the British School of Barcelona (BSB)), and Judy Dean (Deputy Head Teacher of Early Years and Primary at BSB), delivered a fantastic session on leading and implementing change on the training stage as part of the Middle Leaders Clinic. Talking about her experience at the summit, Judy said, “It was a pleasure to be part of the World Education Summit and a very positive experience. Listening to other inspiring sessions was particularly useful.”

Valéria Barros (Bilingual Coordinator at Instituto GayLussac, near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Luciana Haddad (English Curriculum Coordinator at Colégio Maxi, Londrina, Brazil) presented on the theme of “Pedagogical Documentation – Mirroring stories of Learning” on Thursday 24 March. In the presentation, they shared how teachers could document children’s learning in a positive and enriching way, by explaining the methods used in Cognita schools in Brazil.

We would like to say a big thank you and congratulations to all our speakers.
